20 03 2011

Are you looking for something special? Then go for the Louis Vuitton 2011 Berlin guide. If, like us, you don’t like what is fashionable – because it is in the end mainstream – here you will find Berlin as the locals live it, even if the cover is all about “cool” and “hip”, the guide goes beyond the superficial layer and really explain what matters in Berlin, be it in architecture, aesthetics, culture and yes, shopping and dining out.

If you love architecture plenty of books await you in our Living Room…but you can have a sneak preview of Berlin’s fantastic architectural landscape with this brisk video produced by Louis Vuitton guides. Bonus track: 4 very good addresses.

Nan Goldin exhibition in Berlin

19 03 2011

Nan Goldin‘s photos are now in Berlin. The Local reports on the “Berlin Work” exhibition at the Berlinische Galerie:

Berlin is arguably the most creative metropolis on the planet. But it wouldn’t be the artistic haven it is today without those exquisite characters who paraded through Berlin’s dingy underground in the 1980s and 1990s. Photographer Nan Goldin ran with that colorful crowd, documenting their wild ways on her frequent visits. See shots of actress Tilda Swinton, artist Kiki Smith and other luminaries at the Berlinische Galerie before the exhibition ends next Monday.

Price: €6
Location: Berlinische Galerie, Alte Jakobstrasse 124 – 128
Times: Wednesday – Monday, 10am-6pm; through March 28
Phone: 030 789 02 600

Germany is the new France!

27 02 2011

An interesting article from The Local, reporting that Germany now attracts more European tourists than France, according to figures released this week.

The German National Tourist Board (DZT) said Germany was now second only to Spain as the top holiday destination for Europeans, edging out France, Italy and Austria. “In 2010 we broke through the historic mark of 60 million foreign overnight visitors,” said DZT chairwoman Petra Hedorfer in a statement.

The DZT is looking for another banner year for tourism in 2011, with major events such as the FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 125th anniversary of the automobile set to attract visitors from all over the world.

But we know this since 2002, when the Financial Times decreeted “Germany is the new France”! check out the Facebook page...
